Thousands of years ago, I avoided any battery made by Exide, regardless of the brand name on the sticker on the case. And I was very fond of Interstate.
Far as I can tell, Interstate has gone downhill.
East Penn seems to be good.
As with any battery--if the charging system is good, and there's no parasitic drain, no excessive starter draw, no wire-harness problems, and you keep the battery case clean and the connections tight--you'll likely get reasonable service.
