remove oil filter adapter

Does anyone know what is needed to remove the oil filter adapter elbow from my 1996 k3500 with the 454? It is leaking really bad around the adapter. I thought i was a 3/8 drive extension but that didnt work, it looks like a square tool is needed?

I ground a 2'' 3/8 extension down a little on each side to keep it square.hopefully you have a bench grinder to make that easier.Also,what you see are merely plugs,once they are removed you'll need a 10mm(IIRC)socket to remove the two bolts holding the adapter on.

Damn I hate to ruin a perfectly good extension. Maybe I'll snag one from Walmart.
