The gap will close up fine that’s under the cnotch when u tighten up the bolts and it hasn’t affected anything so far

While you have the box off, notch the crossmember. The instructions don't mention that.
I boxed the notch, but that doesn't have to be done. I was just practicing my somewhat limited welding skills.

I think if I were to use a notch that the under bed notches like the ones from Reklez would be the way to go. Plenty of room to go lower if you decided to later.
