‘97 5.7 Frustrating

I love the OBS body style…and I love my ‘97…but it is frustrating how limited the ‘96+ are when it comes down to the changes you can, or should I say, can’t make to engine!

If your in a emission controlled state not a whole lot. If you live in a minimal or no emissions there are upgrades. Ignition, headers, aftercat duals, intake filter, computer, trans programs mechanical electronic. Swap in a 383. Good luck.

Can make planty of changes even in emissions counties. Just have to be sneaky. 383, 396 or 406 and a cam with rhoads v-max lifters to make it idle near stock smooth. I put aluminum heads on mine and painted them black. Also have 50 state legal carb approved thorley tri-ys. Ported stock intake with 48 lb/hr spider upgrade to support the ~500 hp on E85. March underdrive pulleys, e-fans, volant cold air intake and smog legal shorties along with 1.6 rockers would be great power upgrades. Can also tune the black box.

Yup, all the urban counties in Texas are. Harris ( where I live and the county Houston is in) and Fort Bend( where the Burb is registered cause we lived there when we bought it) are that way. My inspection station doesn't look real close on older vehicles, but he'll tell me what it needs to pass if it won't initially.

Where you find your Doug headers I've looked everywhere for a set of used ones but can't find any. Not sure what the part number is I forgot . It's been discontinued but I heard they were the best.

I bought mine on Amazon in 2013ish. They are for an Express chassis. My G20 van had a set I found on Ebay years ago that came out of California. Looked like new then.
