My first trucks, and ones I owned a lot of, were the 60-66 Chevy's and IMO those were the best trucks GM ever made.

Unfortunately, that era of truck was pretty much gone by the time I had any kind of vehicle awareness. I'm only a few years younger than you, but the Michigan salt/winter removes vehicles from our roads faster up here. The 67-72's are where my memory starts.

My adventures have included a couple of '68 Coupe de Villes, a couple of classic BMW 6-series - '78 633csi and '83 635csi, a couple of C3 Corvettes - the beater '80 and the sweet '69, an '86 Jaguar XJS with a Chevy 350, a bagged squarebody '89 Suburban after I told myself I was through with squarebodies and hated them, etc. And my adventures also led me into modern Mopar stuff which has proven pretty fun so far, but I highly recommend going straight to the SRT8 models on those!

However, as a daily driver today, you'd have to sink a small fortune into one and then be afraid to park it anywhere for fear of being stolen. (which is sort of the same boat I'm in with the Redneckinator)

Yeah my cousin loves his '66 C10 but he doesn't drive it in Austin. 3 on the tree, that is no fun at all. And the county he lives in has less than 20,000 people in it, and the truck is either at his work or behind his locked gate. He has to go to Austin, it's wife's or mom's car.

You're right. Each time I found a C2500 'Burb with a 350 I kept on moving. 454 or nothing.
Yeah, stock 350s suck. Roscoe's going to be a tow pig with a 350, but only because it's a motor I built. My '99 Suburban with a Vortec 350 was 'adequate', and not for towing.

It'd be interesting to see a venn diagram of the cars we've owned and worked on. '80s Jag? Check. Big block Cadillac? Check. Late model Mopar? Check (albeit a V6). Ever play with rotary engines?

Found a pretty clean '93 regular cab C3500 dually, 7.4, NV4500. I think I love it. Not sure I want to get back into driving a manual trans in Houston traffic, but... truck appears mostly stock, and I'm seeing it with a 6/8 drop, bolt-on 20's (if you can still find them?), and loud exhaust... :)

Before I get a "You won't" - I've already messaged the seller! Waiting to hear back on some details.

Cool truck but you know that a 4L80E swap is in your future.

I mean.. you're probably right? I dunno. I've toyed with the idea for years now. Seller contacted me back and seems legit, but unfortunately there is a title issue where I'll have to get a bonded title. I'm no stranger to them, it's just extra cost and a bit more effort. Just got off the phone with the title service people I've used in the past as I hate doing all the extra legwork on top of going to the tag office for regular transfers. Depending on how much I want them to do, it's $300 for just the bond paperwork, or $715 for full service they hand me plates and registration sticker at their office.

I've got a friend that can road trip with me on the roughly 6 hr round trip (no biggie) but today is bad for me as I've got plenty of work to do on Ol' Drippy (the wife's SS) then I'm back to work tomorrow. :(

I wish WI still had in-person title and plate services! I had a 'guy' like that who just did plates and titles, stop in pay the fee and get real steel plates right there then get your title mailed to you within 2 weeks. Painless and never took more than 15min in and out the door. And you could sift through his in-stock plates to see if any numbers/letters stood out if he wasn't busy, lol.

Then the DMV forced all of those to close and go to the DMV instead, they could print your title on-site at the time of transfer. They had to pay for all of those new printers, it was handy but had the standard 1hr minimum DMV wait. That lasted about a year, maybe two and now everything is online and takes months. No in-person option unless you travel across state to the capital. Sorry for the tangent, lol

I just did..

Wrapped up the end of my work week, 12+ hr night shift, arranged the night before to go meet the guy. Friend Nigel offered to run me out there in his wife's Camry, pulled up at my house literally as I'm getting out of my truck from work, I go inside tell my wife I'm headed out of town to buy a truck, see ya in a few hours. :Big Laugh:

3+ hr trip to get there and discover as usual the truck is way crustier than the ad or conversation with the seller would have one believe. Still, it seems pretty solid so I negotiated with the guy a bit and we reached a deal. OK. Engine running terribly but no scary noises. Needs full tune-up, CTS, thermostat, etc. Tires are so cracked you can see the air through them. Shocks went off-duty years ago. What's left of the dash looks like a dry lake bed - it's BAD.

#1 thing got to go GRILL GUARD omg this thing is awful

#2 thing got to go these taillights and this janky bumper. That's my buddy Nigel that ran me out there to get it.

Trying desperately to stay awake for the 3+ hr drive home. I think I did but I'm not sure. Drove averaging 65mph the whole way and didn't stop once til I was home, didn't wanna give up any momentum. Entertained myself watching how many times the CEL would cycle on and off, and worrying with each dip or bad bump the ancient tires would give up.

"Some things work, some things don't" - the freaking cruise worked, blew my mind. Temp gauge doesn't. Fuel guage mind of its own. A/C controls work but freon charge is out and recirculate actuator complaining. 160K miles but the tires are too tall it's about 1/10th of a mile slow :( (will mod the DRAC as soon as I pick a tire size.)

Tell me I won't. :Big Laugh:
