They definitely can't be lowered as much/easily as a RWD, and I just literally have no use for 4WD.I say go for it. You've got vehicles that you can drive while searching, so you can take your time. I would think it a good idea to expand your candidates a little wider, Though. I wasn't looking for a Volvo when I bought my 850..... I don't see why you couldn't be happy with a 4x4. They can be lowered, although maybe not as low as what you plan for a 2wd. I think the 4L80e would also be a good idea.
I feel like I've owned enough GMT400's to know what I really like and don't like about various models/options/years... Then I see a halfway decent deal or a nice looking truck outside of my scope and start to think about compromising on this, or that, and... ugh.. end up with something I don't really want.
It would be an improvement in reliability.. but it would still be a Ford.You could always get a Ford, and swap in a 6.5L diesel
