Sounded like just for the top and hood. Maybe not, when I got that figure, that ended the discussion. But I would presume basecoat/clearcoat since that's what they did on the Burb fender.
If I can find a used hood with decent paint, gold or pewter, at the yards, I might just do that for now as that's where it's flaking.

You seem pretty handy, ever thought of trying to repaint it yourself?
Now days they can match the color to allow for fade.

MAACO is running a sale for under $900 on a single stage job  I remember when they were $39.95
I remember when I first got my 97 Suburban, being a broke highschool kid my dad said MAACO was rubbing a special, and I should go get my roof and hood repainted, the special was like $125 out the door for everything, prep, paint and match to existing paint, clear, etc. Etc.
And I didn't do it. $125 was just too much for me, if only I knew then.

Maaco's tend to get a bad rap as far as bodyshops go They are independently owned and operated, Some do really decent work for the dollars spent, some turn out pure crap. I painted at one for a while that the owner didn't want to get into higher end stuff. So I did quite a few cars at night. Paid for my materials and some shop time cash and everyone was happy. Walking in the back door and telling the guy in the paint suit there's a tip of $50 or whatever involved if it comes out nice helps. At least he'll look over the prep closer. Most of the help, painter and bodyman excluded, are $10 hr help so not always thorough

$39.95, $125, or $899. Its all the same paint job just adjusted for business costs. I'm not saying its a bad thing to pay people more and work safer but its just part of the new business model. Instead of paying a high school kid $4/hr to wipe down 5 cars per hour with an acetone soaked rag with no PPE, now it $25/hr to spend 3-8 hrs on prepping a single car with $100 or more worth of PPE per car. And they have to use single-use consumables because you cant send paint rags through a clothes washer anymore.

The paint has probably gotten better since the $39.95 days but not $900 better. If you want to just cover up peeling paint and/or make the whole vehicle one color, you can buy a LOT of paint and masking tape for $900 to do in your backyard and it probably wont be worse than MAACO. If you plan on wet-sanding out the runs and bugs afterwards it'll turn out way better than MAACO. It'll just cost you time.

EDIT: you beat me to it Hipster

Crap man, they guy I worked for would go get cons out for work release. Couldn't tell you how many of them went to lunch or over the back fence and never came back. lol

The one I worked for used Nason paint. The "paint special" was acrylic enamel no hardener, the next up was acrylic with a hardener that they upsold as uv protection, and the next service was Urethane single stage, and top "paint service" was bc/cc. At the time my costs for a gallon of nason single stage urethane, hardener, and the quart of reducer to paint one was about $80-90. Now to walk in a paint store and get it, it's $500-600. Maaco is approaching the manufactures and buying for 500-700 shops or whatever they have now. Maaco used to warehouse the supplies then send them out to the shops as needed. So they have leverage. Paint prices have more than quadrupled in the last 10 years. A buddy of mine told me a week ago or so he paid almost $500 for a gallon set -up for PPG shop line clear. That's a mid-tier product. A couple 3 years ago it would have been under $200.

I talked to them at MAACO when I was looking into having mine done. They went from ~$1300 for single stage up to ~$3800 for bc/cc cut & buff. I looked at some of their work sitting out waiting to be picked up, including a 66 Goat. I had a hard time telling the difference between single and bc/cc. I decided to forego the cut and buff which was ~$800 by itself. I went with a little door ding repairs, sealer, primer, 3 coats of base, and 4 coats of clear, IIRC. The painter laid it out nice and smooth, for the most part, I did find a couple sags later but, it looked great. I can always go back and have it buffed out I guess. The entire cost there was a little over $2800, then I put all new trim, grille, front bumper, valance, rear bumper cover, etc for another $1000. I'm happy with it for the investment of ~$4000 total. It's not a $10,000 show quality job but, it's better than an $899 one.

You had some closer pics on one of your threads, I think you got a good job for a fair price. The big aversion to single stage is the single stage metallics. The Nason single stage urethane is a damn good product cost/quality wise compared to other products considerably more expensive. Once you learn the product you can lay it out like glass and it rivals bc/cc. The problem is alot of the painters that think they're hotshots get there arses kicked by the materials so they shyt talk it to distract from there shortcomings. I'vge seen many a painter that thought they were the ******* get their arses handed to them by a gallon of single stage metallic. I paint one right behind them single stage silver, the gloss is good, it's slick, no mottle. Sorry buddy it's not the paint that's effed, it's you. Used to have people call me a liar when I told them it was $90 dollars worth of single stage. You just can't buff out your mistakes so you learn not to make many.
