my last SBC was a 350 4 bolt main block (69 Corvette) 202/160 Heads Custom Ground Comp Cams Cam. High Rev Hydraulic Lifters, Comp Cams Roller Rockers. Worked out well in an 83 Monte Carlo

suggestion: if ya go more than 3.8" --- suggest go to a bigger bore like OE or aftermarket "400" piece.
They breathe so much better with a larger bore; bigger bore helps unshroud the valves, it matters. No doubt the shrouding effect can only be increased by a 4" stroke in a 350 block.
Of course, the aftermarket blocks are designed to accommodate larger strokes.

JMO, I'd rather have a more-carefully executed 355, than a plain white wrapper 350 stroked to 383/388.

FWIW, Long ago, I built a 4.030" std deck 2pc rms block x 3.8" (scat) 388ci; 5.7" pink rods and std base circle HFT cam. It did Require cam-clearance the top of some rod bolts. I'd already balanced it for spec rod weights --- so I clearanced All 8 rods to match. Plenty aftermarket rods $$ could have fit without mods.
Since then, but still Long ago, I've gone to pistons with thin, metric ringpaks. Haven't looked back.

if I had unlimited funds I would have a aftermarket block with a minimum of a 4.185 bore and maximum of a 4.250 bore and a stroke of 4.250

I went to the DART SHP blk 4.125" bore and 4.0" stroke. Had to get custom pistons to keep the compression in the 9.46:1 static range. COVID time frame and it took 9 months to get the pistons done. All said [email protected] and 560ftlb@4K. Still using the MPFI type spider (48lb/hr) and OEM Throttle body. Really nice to have all that Trq makes climbing the mountain passes a breeze. It only $$$$ cant take it with you.

I like hearing this. The generally accepted limit of the stock spider seemed to be around 400hp. I'm currently working on a 383 with the stock mfpi spider and a very mildly ported stock intake/throttle body. Did you install a larger fuel pump to feed the beast?

If I had unlimited funds I probably wouldn't be screwing around w/ $10K pickups.
That said, if ya want truly BIG inch sbc, our kiwi friends were doing a 600" sbc for jetsprint race boats. JMO, there's little more ballsy than jetsprinting except Isle of Man TT mo'cycle races (rather lethal, June 2024).
Major jetsprint venues at NZED; although some in USA's PNW.

Stateside, CFE has followed-on with their 600" sbc
