I haven't ordered one at all yet. Single pistons are surprisingly difficult to find. Rock Auto sells a set of 8 in the Engine Tech brand. I also see that same set of 8 being sold by private sellers. Makes me wonder what's wrong with them (the pistons, not the sellers, but that could go either way lol).

Also, I was all set to head to the yard in the morning. It's supposed to POUR all day tomorrow. Lovely.....
Go to the dealership and order a single piston. They ordered them in for warranty repairs all the time. Also where in Pa are you?

look around

I have done just that. I said EFF the rain and went to the yard today. Found a 94 RCSB with a 5 speed, a Hurst shifter, a computer, and this:

I ran the numbers quick and it's a 5.7L that, while maybe not original to the truck, it definitely an 88 - 94. Someone did a TBI to carb conversion already. Oh, and I kinda wanted the bling'ed out pulleys.

So for whatever reason, another guy came by this same truck and wanted the seats. They were mint, but no headrests. Then, the gentleman stayed and helped us (my Father was there, too) pull that engine. If that person happens to be reading this post - I thank you again, sir.

So, a few hours later:

I don't want the long block. I just want a piston or two (providing they are shallow groove, and standard bore). I pulled the driver side head and quickly learned that this engine is pooched. See cylinder 5. It also has a severely spun main bearing at that same cylinder. The pistons measure at standard bore, though.

It had already DOWNPOURED twice at this point and we weren't trying to stick around for anymore rain. So, I pulled the oil pan quick and removed the rod cap from the #1 piston. It took minimal effort to slide the piston out of the cylinder.

The moment of truth! It's a shallow ring piston, measuring in at .165" YES!

Now on to the bling. Or not. The yard was about to close so I had to pack my tools up quick and get out of there.

On the bright side, that means no one else can get these parts today. If I manage to get there when the yard opens in the morning, my chances of still finding treasure are pretty good. Besides, I had pulled the Hurst shifter and the computer already - and totally forgot them at the yard! Between the rain, feeling rushed, and pushing closing time at the yard, I just wanted to get the Hell out of there.

Yeah... now do I have to swap to my original conrod or can I use what this piston is on? If I use the conrod from the yard, I'm going to have to use my original cap. Long story short, I'm sure I didn't grab the cap for the yard rod.

Oh well. I'm going to try to be there when that yard opens in the morning. Gotta grab a few more things, however, the piston was by far the most difficult.

You canNOT mix and match caps, so you're going to need to use your original rod.

dude you can't mix and match rod caps, and pistons aren't that easy to press off and back onto another rod without damaging them. What could have been simple you've again made more difficult for yourself.

I'm assuming they aren't floating pins. You need a press and preferably a jig to remove the pins. If you don't have those take it to the machine shop.

If you go back to get those other parts, try and grab the cap.

That's all I needed to know.

Off to the machine shop it goes.
