Lets talk cams

Alright I've got an lo5 and would like better efficiency and power. What cams are recommended without having to change anything else but the camshaft. What is everybody running and with what results?

This one from comp seems mild enough, would I need to replace anything but the camshaft?

What year is your truck? Both of those cams are for 87 an earlier engines...

I'm running the comps XE249 cam, it added noticeable gains. I am also running an eldebrock intake, exhaust and tbi mods, along with tune from tbichips.com. With the stock chip it runs very poorly, not sure how it would do on just the cam alone or what gains would be noticed without atleast good exhaust and a chip.

Aslo Dirtridin: did you have to change anything to accomodate the camshaft? And did you see a loss in efficiency?

Since I've been down this road before, I'll just let you know, a lot of guys talk about a cam that will do fine with their stock tuning, and while there are some that may "work" with the stock tune, it's honestly a huge waste of money. Just get the cam you want, and get it tuned.
