Since I still wanted more hex-bit storage, I took a gamble on this 90-bit unit on Amazon. Again, advertised as Made In USA. Ordered...hasn't arrived yet. Tracking shows "Out for Delivery", so I'll find out how well it works very soon.

In general, I don't like magnetic tool holders for the same reason as you--metal swarf from machining/grinding sticks to them. I have to say that it hasn't been a big problem with my bit-holder; which is why I was willing to buy another magnetic holder.I have a few "kits" but my oddball/specialty bits are in a multi-comparment storage boxes similar to this:

There's a bunch of different configurations and styles of these boxes out there to build your own kit.
I've moved away from the magnetic tool/tray holders as I don't like metal grinding dust attaching itself to the tool holder and everything in it and I suffer from nerve damage in my hands and the magnetic holders will scatter your stuff if you happen to drop it.
