A friend of mine once said copper wire was invented by me and him fighting over a penny. He is a notorious cheap ass too. Anyways this isn't a shop tool, but I am a thinking man. Wife and i were out school clothes shopping for the kiddos, and she was going to leave the hangers behind. I told her take the hangers too. Always take the hangers. She looked at me like I was nuts, shrugged her shoulders and went ummm ok as she rolled her eyes. When we got home, I took my cutoff wheel and cut the clips off, then filed the edges smooth. This took less than 5 minutes. Now we have free chip clips for the pantry. Need more, when the wifey goes clothes shopping always have her take the hangers.

I think I've found someone who's out cheap-skated me.
My mom's people come from a long line of Okies. Before people got oil and gas money, that's how everyone had to be...cheap and resourceful! No shame in it!
Heck I once used a bread bag tie on my then boyfriend 's Toyota pickup, to replace a grille fastener that had fallen off. He was too cheap to fix it(part of why we broke up!)

I repurpose a lot of stuff, and I dont toss anything away. I keep flat steel sheet stock and aluminum sheet stock in various thicknesses in my shop along with different wall thicknesses and sizes of square and rectangle tubing. The smaller castoffs end up in a bucket. I cant count the number of times I have dug around in that bucket and got just the right pieces to make stuff like this parking brake cable bracket among other things.

You probably would have gotten along well with my dad. That's the way he did. Every once in a while I find something I can use!

A buddy of mine works tor union pacific. He gave me a set of jumper cables that had a plug in on one end like an electric forklift battery plug to plug into the company vehicle with jumper ends on the other end. I made these into regular jumper cables. Got the ends off evilbay. 20 foot long. Now that's handy. Ends were about $8 a pair. You can easily do this and make your own with #2 gage welding cable.

They keep these on the track riding maintenance trucks. He gave these to me. They had the jumper end on one end, and a plug in on the other end. I added a set of jumper cable ends to it.
