Factory Theft Deterrent will allow the engine to crank. If it doesn't crank, it isn't the anti-theft system.
Start with manually cranking the engine by the crank pully bolt to verify its not hydro-locked.
Next, check for power & ground at the starter.
A single click of the starter suggests no power or ground on the main cables or its cranking, but something is physically stopping it from turning.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT hit a gear reduction starter with a hammer. I'd it's not dead, it will be after hitting it
The "tap" at the starter body is to help free up the field coils and armature that may be rubbing and causing the problem. It really is not supposed to be a "haul off and knock the crap out of it" kind of hit. If is rubbing, the starter is needed. The tap is to get it going because the problem usually doesn't happen in your driveway.

Gear reduction starters arent built that way.
When you hit a Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction starter with a hammer you instantly break the magnets in the case and the magnets get sucked to the armature and does not let it rotate.
Do Not Hit a PMGR Starter.

I defined the difference in a tap and a hit. A light tap, especially with a rubber mallet, will not hurt it. You have your opinion and I have mine. No biggee.

Have you ever read the paperwork that comes with a new PMGR Starter? In HUGE LETTERS is says DO NOT HIT WITH HAMMER.

Hit equals break. Hit equals "will hurt it". My "opinion" has been realized my countless people over the last 30 years, therefore it's not an "opinion".
