the answer is no

if you want to be 100%, look at the RPO codes of truck in question, you will see all the details in there and then start guessing what the previous owners were butchering

The z71 only came in 4 x 4, bilstein shocks, larger tires, a decal, generally a g80 rear, 14 bolt with 6 stud axles. I own a 1998 gmc sierra slt z71.

A Z71 doesn’t mean you get the 14 bolt. That’s IF you have rpo F44.

Only 4x4 trucks with Z71 till the GMT900 or those silly little Colorado trucks.

Also, no to the 14 bolt axle, but yes to skid plates.

I spotted a 14 bolt 6 lug under a late GMT 400 Z71 driving down the road not too long ago. It's the first one I've seen since I started paying attention about a year ago.

I'd figure someone did an axle swap on it?

No axle swap. I have a 1998 gmc sierra k1500 z71 slt with the captains chairs and center console, with 70k original miles. with the 14 bolt 6 lug rear, two tone paint as well. I am told and i understand it is a one of a kind. It is not a trailer queen but its working days are over. It gets babied.
