Actually, the most restrictive area in the intake tract is that lip on the throttle blade. Get rid of that and you can feel the difference.

So I have a quick question, why is this only for 96+? Are the throttle bodies different on the 88-95 TBI's? I'd love to try this, but I want to know why they don't have my year included? Is it something to do with the computer? Or the vortec assembly?

An 87-95 thtottle body is completely different, and they do not have the restrictor on their throttle blades at all.

If you have a 88-95 TBI truck, get their spacer-it does a really good job. Read up on it on the site above and youll see why.

When you remove that stupid restricter, make sure you take it around the block, or somewhere where there is no traffic, & drive it a bit so you can get used to the different throttle response. When I did mine, it took a little getting used to. Even with a 4.3, the difference was quite noticeable. G.M. put that thing in there in order to flatten out the torque curve & to coddle the masses. They were designed because of the lowest common denominater. The same reason dumb-ass laws are passed by the government. Get it out of there!

Oh snap so I can't do this on my 95 TBI? Isn't there something similar that us TBI guys do under the ultimate TBI mods? Like filing off/down that ridge around the port holes ontop of the TBI or is this something completely different?

As far as airflow mods go, I noticed the biggest difference when buying a mid-hi range tbi spacer and combined it with the powercharger...Mid punch acceleration 40+ was awesome.

I forgot...take the throttle body (?) off the truck when you do this. That restrictor is held in by a couple of small screws, (I've seen rivets, too) & you don't want those falling down inside. Ive seen some guys put a couple of 'loc-tight'ed screws in those holes. I epoxied the holes on mine, but, that kind of freaks me out a bit, so I end up checking it all the time. I'll put some screws in there when I feel like taking everything apart, again. I was told that leaving the holes open will effect the idle. I never left mine unplugged so I don't know if that's true or not. Don't waste your money on the so called 'Hi-tech' aftermarket blades. They're the same as the stock one in there now, just without the little holes in them. Thinner plates or 'knife-edged' ones that are advertised are not going to give you any real performance boost.

You're talking about your vortec motor correct? This has nothing to do with TBI guys? Sorry.

Yep. Vortec. I wish there were spacers, &/or powerchargers available for mine, but as soon as I look, or ask any one, about mods for a 4.3, engine code 'W', I get blank looks, sneers or outright laughter.

That usually ends when I tell 'em what kind of mileage I get.

5.7 is in the plans.

Gotcha what I'm asking is under the Ultimate TBI mods, where TBI guys shave the ridge off the top of the ports on the TBI, is that essentially the same thing as what you guys are talking about for this Vortec Modification? I've heard the TBI mod I'm talking about greatly increases throttle response as well. Too bad I broke one of the TBI bolt heads off putting on my new TBI spacer...Now I have to do some serious work to ever get my tbi off again so I can shave those things down :nono: Unless I can do it without removing the TBI? :hmm:
