Yeah theres some goofy laws. Brother a cop and was telling me some. But it really depends on the circumstance to go that far lol
I agree, but it's still a violation in a technical sense. Like if the cop just wants to be a dick about it.
Also, when you drive a low truck you gotta flip the hitch upside down to get the trailer level. Mine is a 6" drop hitch turned over, trailer sits nose up about 1.5" empty, with a car on it I put about 60 lbs in the bags and it's level. Pulls great.

Most cops around here are cool, I live in a small town where we all know each other, plus I run a wrecker sometimes.

Those rock lights are illegal in Illinois, but I see em all the time...

So you're talking about a 2014 truck and not a gmt400 and his car was plastic and bump in a drive through? So like he ROLLED into you?

There's no comparison between a 2014 with a boxed high strength steel frame sections and a gmt400.

Holy bejeebuz.
I have a 2014 bumper on my gmt400. And my frame is 1/4 thick. If it bends by getting hit at 5 mph ill just scrap the truck. The guy didn't roll into me hit going atleast 5mph. It was a f150 and the hitch bend the steel bumper and went between the steel and plastic.

If you left it in, you'd most likely end up with the thing all bent & mangled, to the point of not being able to take it out or even use it. That or you'd still end up with a bent bumper as the hitch will just poke a hole in whatever it stabbed, allowing the rest of the impact to "mellow out" on something with more surface area.

Around here, if you leave the hitch in, it'll just rust in place after a few years and catch calfs in the parking lot. F that noise. Take it out and leave it in the cab if you tow that much with the rig.

Years ago, I had an 89 Jeep Comanche that came to me with a rusty receiver. The hitch wouldn't really fit any more. I lightly pounded it in with something. It wouln't go in far enough to put the pin through. I very carefully moved a fiberglass I/O speed boat on a trailer from one spot to another. I then chained the hitch to a very large oak tree, to get the hitch back out :D

Do what you will man. I would be under there with a tram gauge measuring because damage isn't always visible to a calibrated eyeball.
