Cap and rotor suggestions. 5.7 C2500 just developed a miss momentarily and service engine light is now on after yesterday’s really rainy day. Planning on basic tune up and have paid for Delcoe in past on my 4.3 and still had same issues missing on really wet days after a year or so. Is there a better cap cuz not sure why I pay extra for one that supposed to be good? Or is it we have to take these damn things off constantly and clean em? Know this is the Achilles heal of the system is there anything that can be done?
Some of the distributors are supposed to have vents in them and don't, from what I've read on here. I would recommend a Blue Streak cap and rotor; brass contacts and made of higher quality plastic. I had a similar problem with my Burb 5.7 vortec, and it straightened out after a cap and rotor replacement.
But do check the cam offset too. My truck maybe didn't have that problem?

WHAT MODEL YEAR? TBI or Vortec?

How old are the plug wires?

Mist the coil, and then the plug wires with a spray bottle of water. If the misfire happens when the coil is wet, you may have a faulty coil. If the misfire starts when you mist the plug wires, maybe the wires have rotted insulation.

95 5.7 TBI
181k

Vortec E381 Delco pump
Carter Level sensor
New tank
All new fuel lines(6AN from tank to TBI)
New ACD RT44 plugs(non platnum)
New cap, rotor and wires as well

I am getting a bad hesitation and misfire type situation the TBI is my suspect as when I was watching the fuel pattern yesterday it was a stream from both injectors not a spray pattern at all. I am thinking of having Wayne at Injection Masters rebuild both my injectors and the TBI unit as I am not very familiar with them. But is there anything I am missing that would cause that same issue?

What's your fuel pressure? You may have a broken pressure regulator spring or plugged injector screens. I'm guessing you put in a new fuel filter then too?

yes everything from tank forward is new including filter, not sure on my pressure as I don't have a gauge to check it. It is on the list to buy.

I'd anyone still uses this thread I have a few questions, Im fifteen and I just received my dad's truck after him passing its a 1991 5.7 gmc sierra k1500. It has 300,268 miles on it and I was wondering will it need to be rebuilt? it was his baby and he took care of it. It has minor rust on the cab corners box arches and I was wondering is it a easy fix. The transmission started to slip and was wondering if it needs a whole new trans or could be rebuilt. And finally is it worth the money I put in, what's the value of these trucks right now.

Sorry to hear about your dad's passing.

The good thing about these trucks is that they're reliable and easy to work on. "Will it need to be rebuilt?" No, it just needs to be maintained. Don't fix what's not broken.

I'm assuming you have an automatic transmission. If the transmission is slipping, check the fluid level. Fire it up, drop the gear selector through each gear, don't forget to put it back in park, and while it's still running, check the dipstick. I don't think low fluid is your problem, though. Usually if the fluid's low it won't slip, but it will have trouble going into reverse. Is the fluid a nice, transparent raspberry red? Or is it cloudy, black, or does it have lots of black sediment?

If the transmission is bad, rebuilding it is a "5" on a scale of 1-5 "How easy is it to rebuild?" I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 700R4 (earlier version of the 4L60 they used in '91), and I keep having to go back a few steps and reassemble. I'm about 80% confident the transmission will work when I'm done.

With 300k miles, the worth is up to you. As far as anyone other than an enthusiast is concerned, your truck is used up. But if it runs, it's worth it to you to keep it running.
