8.25 front, either a 10 or 14 bolt semi flaoting rear, gear em with 4.10s with the 35. gear both or youll render your front diff useless and should never engage it with non matching gears.

if you want to regear to 410s look around for a 2500 light duty which is a 6 lug, they commonly have 410s in them and grab the front diff out of it. and hey while your at it grab the rear out of it too and upgrade to a 14 SF if your going to be running 35s.

I think the 3:73 gearing is a bit more common then 4:10s. But 2500 Light Duties are not the only trucks with the 14B SF. They are also found in the 1500 Diesels and any 1500 with the F44 Package. From the conversation i have had with Fastorange it sounds like the 2500 LD was replaced by the F44 packaged 1500s since they are basically the same truck. Same idea as to how the 97-99 Ford F250s were replaced with the F150 7700 package.

Yes i understand 14 boltsf are in more then just 2500 light duties but if he finds a parts truck say in a junk yard with the 410 then he mind as well get the rear as well with matching gears if he dosent already have the f44 package

I geared my truck to 4.56 from 3.73 just because it is more of a jump and more worth the cost of the regear. I do not regret it at all. It has helped with fuel mileage and driveability as long as I dont drive too fast, then it drinks the fuel.

Depends on which 2500 it is.

6 lug have the 8.25 same as 1500
8 lug would have the 9.25 same as 3500

9.25 is the clean one, 8.25 is the dirty one (not my pics, I nicked them off the 'net)

when you take the hub center off, you have a GM corporate 14 bolt full float axle.

If your differential cover has 14 bolts and does not look like the picture above, you have a 14 bolt semi floating axle.

If your differential cover has 10 bolts, you've got the little brother that GMT400's came factory with.

The confusion arises at the 2500 level. GM made a "half step" model with the lighter GVWR 2500's. BAsically, it's 1500 with a little heavier spring rate and the 14 bolt semi float read axle. The rest of the truck is pure 1500.

The "all in" 8600lb GVWR 2500 is nearly a 3500 mechanically....for the nit pickers, notice I said NEARLY.....:)

Hey guys I have a question. I drive a 98, 2500 with a 350 vortec, extended cab, 4x4, long bed with a 14 bolt rear end. The seal around where the drive shaft ties in to the rear end is leaking. I took it to get fixed and when i got it back it was leaking again the next day. I took it back and when I got it back it did good for a week and now is leaking again. Would yall happen to know what the problem might be and how to fix it for good?
