What are the front and rear axle types for a 96 5.7 z71? I plan on putting 35's on it and i am looking to regear. Would 4.56 be a good choice?

4.10 if this is mostly a commuter vehicle, 4.56 if it is going to be towing and/or seeing a lot of offroading.

And what do you mean by 'axle types'? just wondering... the front is an IFS 6 bolt and the rear whatever your stock gears are in a 6 bolt either 10 or 14 bolt differential cover, 14 bolt being the better of the two by far

1500 had 10 bolt or 14 bolt semifloater rear axles
2500 had 14 bolt semifloater or 14 bolt full floater rear axles.

Look at the rear differential and count the number of bolts on the cover. A 10 bolt has a cover that is circular, a 14 bolt semi-floater has an oval, and a 14 bolt free-floater has a distinct "V" shape at the bottom. With the truck having 6 lugs, it will either be a 10 bolt or a 14 bolt semi-floater
