hey guys im sure this question has been answered before but I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere. I recently bought a 1988 ford f350 srw for the front axle to do a SAS on my 1996 k1500 suburban. I did the 14bolt semi float rear conversion about 5 years ago, and now that im axle swapping the front end to a 8 lug I want the rear to match. so will a k2500 8lug rear be a direct fit? will the spring perches line up? also if anyone has suggestion on a different axle that would line right up please let me know. thanks

So I have a 1990 gmc k1500, 5.7 with a 5 speed. Code says Gt4- 3.73 gear. I'm running 35" tires about to go to 37". Should I change my gear to 4.56? Should 3.73 be ok for now? I dont know much about rear end gears. Thanks in advance!

My stupid question is will front ifs diffs swap between platforms? I have a 2002 avalanche for parts and would like to swap the front diff into a 96 1500.

You can check it out here. IMO for 37s you'll want 4.56 at least.

10 bolt = 8.5in ring gear
14 bolt semi floater (sf) = 9.5in ring gear
14 bolt full floater (ff) = 10.5in ring gear

My stupid question about axles:

14 bolt ff rear axle...…….what is difference between a srw and a drw axle.....length from hub surface to hub surface? if so, what is the difference? I have a srw axle from a g3500 srw van that I want to put in a 3500hd drw truck. Is it too wide to use with drw's. Changing to get the 3.73 ratio for better mileage. Is there any weight rating difference between the srw or drw axle, both of them being 14 bolt ff's.

I have a 1999 K1500 Suburban that is 3.42. I swapped in a 1995 f44 14 bolt sf 3.73 rear and am looking for a 3.73 front differential to swap in. What years will work? Can my actuator be swapped out onto a different year differential?

My 98's front diff was out of a 95 and it works good. Mine had push button, and it had manual floor shift, it actually worked with the push button, I was quite surprised. I would guess 95-up just to be on the safe side, but I could be wrong.

The plug and all were the same too?

Yeper, but there was another plug on the diff (off-white looking plug), the floor shift version must have needed two plugs for it to work, but I just tied it up since it wasn't needed.

Doing a 14 bolt swap
A 9.5 6-lug with 4.10s doesn't seem to be a factory option. Is there any reason I can't swap the R&P on a 3.73?
