I may be misunderstanding your question: If you put in that 14 bolt with 4:10s and leave the front diff with 3:73s the 4WD won't work correctly, you need to have the front and rear diff the same gear ratio. I did hear you can have one hundredth off, for example 4:10 & 4:11 will work. If you are asking whether the gears will swap from one another, I think they can swap, if the previous owner swapped the gears out, it most likely had 3:73s, which is what most 14 bolts w/ 6 lugs came with.

Ok. I'll. Slow down. I tried to use an few words as possible. My 1/2 ton has 3.73s. I'm going to do a SAS and a 14 bolt swap at the same time. While I'm doing that I want to go to 4.11/4.10, however it seems that a 6-lug 14 bolt SF didn't come with a 4.10 option. I assume I can just swap the ring and pinion but I know some diffs have a "break over" point where the carrier is different i.e. 3.90 down vs 4.10 up on a Dana 44. So my question is can I put a 4.10 R&P in a factory 3.73 axle

Yes, you can. Although I believe 4.10 (and even 4.56, although very rare) were an option in the six lug 14 bolt semi-floaters. There are a few up on car-part.com.

Thanks. Car-part doesn't give me an option for it. But I plan on doing a full rebuild before I put it in. So I'll just grab a $200 3.73 one

Are you searching for 2500 or 3500 rear axles? The only way to get a 14 bolt semi-floater in a 1500 was to either have a 454SS or a 6.5 diesel, so I'd imagine the gearing options were probably more limited. If you search 2500 or 3500 axles you should get the option for a 14 bolt 9.5" in 4.10 and 4.56.

EDIT - 2500s are the one to search for, I just searched 3500s out of curiosity and it looks like all of those got the full floater 10.5"s.

Well. It turns out the problem was 4.10s weren't available in 98 I guess. I did a search for a 95 and found them. That being said. F44 1/2 tons were really common around here. And I can get a 1/2 ton 14 bolt 3.73 for less than half that of the 3/4ton 4.10

Not correct about the semi floaters. 1500's with RPO code F44 had the 14 bolt sf

I have a 10 bolt rear on my 88 k1500, my question is the diff cover has no fill thread/hole. But It appears there is a “thread” with square spot for a socket on the diff housing it self. Is this my fill thread for the diff fluid?
