So......there were (are) JB6 axle flanges for 3" tube 10 bolts (surburbans) AND JB6 flanges for 3&3/8" tube 14 bolts? Were any 14 bolt SS454 axles JB6 equipped? (haven't measured, but pretty sure they came with 3" tubes)

You say that, but there's a thread on here recently that mentioned the 454ss trucks getting the limp djck 10" drum brakes.
A 14b? I thought some early 454SS’s had 10 bolts with crappy brakes. But the 14b’s all had 11” brakes.

I, too, expected that the 454SS axle was a 9.5" "14-bolt", and had the 11.x brakes.

Apparently I was wrong about the brakes.

Which then makes me wonder about the size of the axle tubes on those axles.

I'm under the impression ALL 454ss trucks got the 14b.

I know these aren’t your favorite people @Schurkey, but according to Little Shop, and I’ve also read elsewhere that some 454SS’s got the light duty 10b.

I could be wrong though.

I'd imagine they're the same. According to Dutchman Axle the bearing journal measurements for a 454SS axle and a standard 2WD six lug 14 bolt SF are identical.

It sounds to me like a standard 2WD 14 bolt semi floater with 11" brakes and 454SS shafts would actually be an upgrade over a real 454SS axle, if the OEM 15" wheels will clear the 11" brakes. Not sure about that...
