My girl's 1990 K2500 6 lug is 7200 GVWR. On the 2500 8 lug, it might make a difference if has any added trailering add ons, over and above the normal, IMO, 8600 GVWR with the full float axle.

Full float and semi float didn't affect the GVWR. Here's one for ya: my CCSB 2500 is rated at 8500 or 8550 GVWR, not the usual 8600. And it has a 454 and the full floater.

I thought so. But, it’s been 36 years and still no one’s figured it all out.

^^^This is what I meant too, seems like there’s always a new example.

Doh! I lied. Had to go out and check. It's no the GVWR that's weird on it, it's the RAWR.

Ordinarily I see 6000# for a RAWR. I gotta wonder if this one is different because it's a short bed? Doesn't make sense to me but it's the best I got.

I would bet why you have less , to account for the crew cab extra basic net vehicle weight. Reduced your axle wt. rating.

My dad has a 95 C2500 with 8 lug fronts and rears, the rear appears to be semi float by absence of the bolts for the axle shaft.

I could see it reducing payload with more weight on the axle to begin with, but not overall capacity. The axle itself is good to something like 8700# from AAM.

You can go with the known data that's in stone. GVWR 8600. And the GM engineers did the math, that's a known.
All the other stuff is a lot of , unknowns, guessing, no paperwork or data . So I go with what is known and verified.
