Coolant temp questions? *PLEASE HELP*

The OE temp sender for the gauge is a one wire sender and, as @Schurkey mentioned, for a light it's a switch not a sender. The current switch is in the side of the head between #s 1 & 3. You can always install a sender for your gauge on the other head between #s 6 & 8. This way both your new gauge and the idiot light will work.
