We finally got started doing some work on the truck this weekend. I got my son polishing the 23 year old Eagle Alloys, I think they turned out pretty good, and the project was definitely motivational for him.
I started prepping the block, getting it ready for the machinist.
The first pic is after being washed. The second is polished and sealed.

Re: Q1 & Q2: Sounds like you are all over this. Good pragmatic
choice avoiding the need for mallory metal! I would have done
the same thing given the goals of this project. (!)

Re: Q3: You are obviously way early in the build, but by checking
this early it won't become (what should be) an easily
avoidable showstopper when it's time to go in. Been there, no fun
to be had when the tranny input shaft bearing I need is temporarily on
the unobtanium list. You know, when my lack of planning ahead
plays into the excuse du jour:

"You can't have part X due to Supply Chain issues." :-(

Safe travels --
Circling back to question 3, the crank is machined for a pilot bushing/bearing.

Excellent news - glad to hear that!

By the way, tell your son that those wheels look fantastic polished and sealed.
And the Mickey Thompson tires give it that timeless Baja racer look.

Looking like a great Father/Son project. Nice!

Beautiful wheels. And the white letters tires are great.

I always try to get white letters but it seems like it’s harder to get on some of the tires I like.
Old school wheels.
White lettering.
And wheel to tire ratio, make for a cool combo.
My son and his friends call the set up “immaculate”

Spent some time today prepping the block for the machine shop, should have it done tomorrow.

Also, the axle bearings and seals showed up today, we now have everything to rebuild the 14 bolt. Going with 4.56’s.
