1997 Auction K3500

The 8 lug 2500 had a non floating (not sure the proper term) 14 bolt axle but the 3500 has the full floating 14 bolt. I prefer the full floating, until I have to do the brakes.....

Yes, but the full floating axle in the single wheel and dual wheel 3500s are different. Yours is single wheel 3500 with a full floater, but the drum will still slide off.

So far as anyone knows, are all '97 C3500/K3500 srw slide on/off drums? I haven't jacked up the rear axle on the big truck and pulled a wheel to find out....14 bolt full floating axle,4.10 G80, early 97MY production (late September '96).

They were on my SRW full floating axle

Hauled the old 327 from my C20, stand, and hoist over to my Dad's shop to free up some space in my shop. So far the truck has not given me any issues. I do have a small coolant leak from somewhere, have not found it yet. I assume it's a crack in the radiator. Still feeling pretty good about my purchase. Checked the mileage and I got a bit over 14mpg for the first tank, and that was with ethanol blend from the Co-Op. That is about 4 more than the '73 K20 got. Did not expect it to be that "good" actually. Few things left to do but nothing that will keep me from running it.

Drums did not slide off on my '93 K3500 SRW and they did not on the '97 K3500 SRW either. I cannot speak to the history of the '97 (but I doubt it ever had the axle replaced) but the '93 is family owned since new and it is running the original axle. On both trucks I had to pull the axle shaft, just like my '73 (14 Bolt), '67 (Eaton HO52), and '63 (Dana 60).

The radiator may have a crack or pinhole in one of the tanks. Had that happen on both Burbs. The plastic tanks are notorious for this. Also the gaskets between the tanks and core shrink; this also will cause a small leak. Only way to know for sure is to pressure test it, unless you actually can see the leak.

Okay cool thanks! I guess I will have to jack it up and pull a wheel off then, to see what I have.
