So if I did the same thing, but clearcoated it, I wouldnt have to worry about waxing in theory. My truck is dropped 2/4 (well, its in the process)
Im in south Louisiana. It never snows here, and they never salt the roads. I dont see why you couldnt clear coat over the polish work if you wanted to. For me, I choose not to. Im waxing my truck very regular anyway. It was repainted in 2013 with a single stage paint, so I really like it look good, so I keep up with the paint job by waxing it about once a month or so. I have been putting it in some of our local car shows. It gets a lot of attention. Last weekend I parked ot next to a 2010 procharged Camaro, and a 68 super charged Shelby Mustang that has a Coyote engine. There was also a 69 IH dually truck with a Cummings in it. There was about 30 cars and trucks. There will be another car show Saturday. I want to make it there, but I am on call this weekend.

Id just do the clearcoat for ease. To help protect the aluminum permanently instead of recoating every month or to. Im surprised they werent polished from factory with how good it looks

Also, I noticed your center caps are smooth. Mine have fake lugs molded into it. Is there a reason some are smooth and some have lugs? Was that GMs idea of a "refresh" after a certain year?

Yes, Ive seen both. IDK what was GMs reason for both. I guess it had something to do with trying a sales tactic.

Yes it was kind of a design refresh, what I've noticed is the earlier models used the cap with the "lug nuts" in the holes and 95 up chevys used the smooth caps. GMC used the smooth ones more years than Chevy did.

I almost kept the rims off of my 93 when I sold it. I never polished them out, but there was a lot of things I liked about the 93. My interior was blue. I really liked the seat, door panels and steering wheel set up. My 97 is a much nicer truck. I also rather the stereo set up in the 97. Also I have seen the gray interior in a 93, and IMO the blue looks a lot better. In the 97, the gray looks good. Its just so hard to get anyone to recover the seats in these trucks.

Yes the earlier style N90 wheels ( the ones on your 93) were just used on the pickups. The second model N90, the ones you polished on your 97, were designed for the Suburbans. They have a higher weight rating than the 5 spoke wheel. Dad had some on the front of our 84 Burb, he had the steel rally wheels on the back to haul swap meet stuff. He'd gotten a set of 5 to put on that truck and then saw they wouldn't do the weight. The truck had the 2 on the front when it was stolen, so I still have 3. He polished one and it came out fairly nice. I also like the GMT 800 7 spoke Escalade wheels, with the smooth K series caps. Now that those trucks are not as new, they're not as common as they were.
