I'm Awesome
This one hydraulic locked on coolant from a leaking head gasket as well. Notice the wavy rod. Starter motor did that.

Hell, just pull the rod out, heat it up cherry red, lay it on an anvil, pound it flat, and send it!This one hydraulic locked on coolant from a leaking head gasket as well. Notice the wavy rod. Starter motor did that.

don't tell him that he'll be out there trying to do it.Hell, just pull the rod out, heat it up cherry red, lay it on an anvil, pound it flat, and send it!
Sorry, I couldn't help it
Ok. I didn't even consider the flex plate. I'll have to check that. It seems to idle smooth beside the horrible noise. What's a good source for stock short blocks? You need a long block or at the very least a short block. Regardless of what a compression test shows, that one is hurt. I would not even bother with a compression test, just get straight to pulling it out of the truck.
If you are super lucky it just broke the flexplate, but that sounds like severe rod knock to me, perhaps even a broken rod slapping around.
When my 97 hydraulic locked at 57K on startup from bad intake gaskets it completely grenaded the thing. Broken rods, shattered piston, cam broken in 3 pieces, hole in #2 cylinder wall and multiple holes in the oil pan.
yep, seen that many times in marine apps with shot exhaust logs. This one hydraulic locked on coolant from a leaking head gasket as well. Notice the wavy rod. Starter motor did that.

Tempting. There's a good chance I'm replacing a single connecting rod and seeing what happens. A piston if I'm feeling spendy.Hell, just pull the rod out, heat it up cherry red, lay it on an anvil, pound it flat, and send it!

Swapping out a con rod is a completely reliable fix. Find a engine in a scrap truck and pull the rod that has a matching piston, install a new rod bearing and send it. Maybe include a set of ringsTempting. There's a good chance I'm replacing a single connecting rod and seeing what happens. A piston if I'm feeling spendy.
Pull-A-Part. If you're near OKC, they sell short blocks every other weekend for $150. The alternating weekend they sell complete engines for $250.What's a good source for stock short blocks?
