I've dropped several SB 267 V8's into S-10 and some late 80's Chevys.

Which SB was used in the mid-70s Monza? It wasn’t a 350, but it should have been.

.Also, I dropped a 366 in my M1008 Square body. With the 4.56 rears it has plenty of acceleration. Pic with the stock headers.

Neat “Torker” style intake on your tall deck block.

Thanks for that header picture, I didn’t know GM used them on Chevy/GMC… they and the 366s were only in the medium trucks I assume.

What’s with the upside-down air cleaner cover???

Yes, and also shunned by most people because of thier small displacement. I bet it would be fine in a light truck.
I never understood this. Plenty of block for a bore, tall deck for stroke...
I acquired one years ago, it's probably still in the garage of the house I sold...

A lot of 366's were in grain and dump trucks.

The Monza had the 262 V8 option. The 267 should never be confused with this motor.
The 267 came in Impalas and Caprice. The downsized engine during 1979-81 in some Malibu's came with a 3.3L/200 C.I. Chevy V-6.

The intake on my "peanut port" 366 is a Dart Air Gap. That got me around using the heavy stock intake that had dual thermostats.
It works well with the small Holley. The air cleaner is custom from parts piled in the back shed. The only combination that would fit without rubbing the stock hood. This engine was removed from a US Air Force Blue Bird Bus.
Parts are no problem for the engine as they were also used in many school buses.

The LT1 was originally OBD1, correct? I'm guessing it may take more to install than an LS, Though.

I think it was 1992 - 1997, so it would have to be. Similar to the other engines being talked about, there was also a 4.3L version, so OP could swap 4.3 to 4.3. The optispark though ...

And acceleration of a 2.2L
I actually swapped a fresh TBI 366 into a G30 cutaway RV in place of a tired 350. The 366 ran circles around the 350 bolted to a 4L80E and 4.10 gears. The TBI 366s use small oval port heads rather than the peanut ports that flow ~250 cfm through a 2.06 valve and have dome pistons to keep the compression up with open chamber heads.

It was used from 79-81. It has a 3.50 bore, 2.45 mains, and 2.10 rod bearings. The only Chevy small block V8 less than 305 c.i. to have the 3.48 stroke. I often find them in Impalas and Caprices.

Jeff Smith did a write up of a small block with economy. Got 25 mpg in a full size car.
I think he wrote a buildup of 390/410 hp on 87 octane back in 2001. It was called "Agent 87" and appeared in Chevy High Performance magazine.

My 1983 SBC had the factory tubular headers and catless duals as well.

I used to have a '81 Malibu with the 267, it was totally gutless but it had a THM350 trans in it already at least. I built a 355 out of mostly junkyard parts for it when I was in my pre-apprenticeship program. That really woke it up, but it was dying for some better rear end gears. I think I had 2.73s or something. My dad was telling me (after I got that car) that GM made a bunch of them with the V6 and a 4 speed manual trans, most of them were exported to the middle east. That would have been a cool base to start with! Well, I'm just partial to manual transmissions.

To the OP, I've also got a 4.3 begging to be replaced in my truck, and I've been mulling over the options. You could always just swap in a regular old small block and change to a carb'd setup, if you are averse to wiring. That way definitely has its merits. Honestly the LS swap is the way to go though, plenty of people have done it, it's not difficult to figure out. There's so much aftermarket support for these swaps, and people put them in literally any kind of vehicle you can imagine, so it's not a difficult thing to do. Odds are you could probably find someone near you who could get it done as well, if you don't want to tackle it yourself.
