I put a Bosch pump in Blue 7 years ago... Knock on wood ! That is like saying I have not had a speeding ticket in years, and you go down to the corner store and get a ticket.
At the time that is what was getting good reviews, but there again it was a 300.00 pump at the time.

I've had pretty good luck with Spectra fuel pumps, I'm sure it's cheap Chinese crap, but so is the AC Delco. lol

With a job that involved I would spend the bucks for the AC Delco- I have been burned too many times with cheap parts. With the pump being mission critical I wouldnt scimp ....my logic would be if it dies how much will a tow job be ...

Hence why I'm buying mine at O'Reilly, because with an access hole it's a 15 minute job in the parking lot of the nearest of 5,000 stores and I have AAA so I can get a free tow to the closest one... Same goes if you go with AutoZone, Advance, or whatever your favorite parts store chain is. That's why I would NOT buy one online, because when it goes belly up you gotta buy another one locally anyway if your truck is your daily driving or you're on a road trip or you're using it to move cross-country or whatever.
As for dropping the tank vs making an access hole, some of us here have really nice, clean trucks where chopping a hole is sad. But many of us, myself included, have a lot of miles and some other cosmetic damage so resale value is not really a concern.

I can only find the actual ac delco pump motor. The reason I posted delphi one is it was the whole unit, and 6 months ago my fuel gauge played up, (its been fine since) so I figured maybe I should kill two birds so to speak...

I have a fuel filter and tbi rebuilt kit to throw in today, after that I will be ordering the pump.
Cheers

1. Does Delco MAKE anything? Far as I know, they buy from outside suppliers and rebox. I wouldn't guarantee that the current Delco pumps aren't reboxed Airtex. Or Bosch. Or some other nameless, faceless Communist Chinese company.

2. When I bought mine, Delco was still building them in the USA. That was years ago, though.

3. Access holes are an EXCELLENT way to let gasoline into the passenger compartment in a collision. Think Ford Pinto. How much do you really want to die screaming as you and your family burn to death?

If you're going to cut an access hole for the fuel pump, make sure you can reinforce and seal the opening when you're done, so that when the vehicle rolls over with a ruptured fuel tank, the gasoline doesn't pour into the passenger compartment.

Fine, that doesn't apply to a pickup truck, where the access hole would be in the bed--but who cuts the bed for access?

Simple... Go to the junkyard, cut a larger access hole in another truck, then fit that cut out piecw over your smaller access hole. A few sheet metal screws around the outside to hold it down. Some black silicone before you screw it down to make a good seal. If you wreck that badly that it's a problem you have other concerns.

Lol, guys like you crack me up. You know how many cars/trucks are on the road with access holes for fuel pumps?? How many you see on the news spilling fuel everywhere in a wreck?? For one the damn locking ring seals the pump to the tank, so no fumes enter the cabin, period. Second, no one leaves a damn gaping hole open in their vehicle, that's ignorant to suggest so. Maybe on a race only application but not a daily driver. Third, if your in a wreck bad enough to roll over you got bigger problems than a damn access hole.

Let's live in reality for a while. Some don't agree with access holes but that's just a personal opinion thing, not a damn safety thing. Some don't like cutting up a vehicle some don't mind. Let's not act stupid and start attempting to preach safety to people just bc YOU wouldn't ever have a access in your car/truck.

I'm team ACDelco and no trap door. I personally avoid hacking up my trucks for any reason unless it's absolutely necessary, and I run far and fast from any cheap "lifetime warranty" parts house stuff. That's just making work for yourself IMO. My '97s have gone through one fuel pump each in 21 years, you shouldn't be changing them often.

While it's true that most ACDelco parts are rebadged products these days, they do tend to have better quality control than most other sources.
