1. Does Delco MAKE anything? Far as I know, they buy from outside suppliers and rebox. I wouldn't guarantee that the current Delco pumps aren't reboxed Airtex. Or Bosch. Or some other nameless, faceless Communist Chinese company.
2. When I bought mine, Delco was still building them in the USA. That was years ago, though.
3. Access holes are an EXCELLENT way to let gasoline into the passenger compartment in a collision. Think Ford Pinto. How much do you really want to die screaming as you and your family burn to death?
If you're going to cut an access hole for the fuel pump, make sure you can reinforce and seal the opening when you're done, so that when the vehicle rolls over with a ruptured fuel tank, the gasoline doesn't pour into the passenger compartment.
Fine, that doesn't apply to a pickup truck, where the access hole would be in the bed--but who cuts the bed for access?
