I've seen a couple 07 classic 1500 crew cab z71s with a factory 6.0 and vortec max emblems. Almost bought a black one just didn't like the idea of having payments again. But definitely no vortec max in 99.

Yea before I bought my '13 I looked at a black '06 crew 1500 with the vortec max and factory 4.10 gearing. Problem was they wanted 20k for an '06 with 100k miles!

Interesting, kinda like how the offered the L33 5.3 in the 05+ Classic crew cab trucks. Were they actually Max trucks or just 6.0 trucks? Max engine was a Gen IV is why I ask, I was under the impression all the classics were still Gen III.

Vortec max 1500s we're the best way to get terrible fuel mileage and still retain the low towing capacity of a half ton. Why not just spend less money and get a 2500?

No crew cab with the short bed was my reason.

I bet it gets better fuel economy than my 1500 and it wipes the floor with a 5.3 truck.

I've probably had a dozen 6.0 2500's for work trucks. All single cab 2wds. Not a one got better than 11 mpg at 65 unloaded with the cruise set. And I have never felt that the power they make correlates to the mileage they get. They're great work horses, nothing to get excited about though. It's very possible I've grown snobbish from years of chipped 1000lb tq diesels that pulled down 20 mpg. So my opinion may not be on the nose. Or on the flip side of that my 28 year old 350 that still pulls down 16 mpg and hasn't cost me 1000$ since it was new, and has never once failed. I guess where I'm going with this is that there are so many better options than a 6.0liter anything. To each their own though.
I'll give the 6.0l credit where it's due though. I've never had a problem with or seen a single problem from any I've had or been around (even the severely neglected ones). Alot of them were kept well beyond 300k miles. And a person can buy a 6.0l work truck for at least 10k$ less than a diesel.

Neighbor has an ECSB 6.0 4x4 and routinely gets 15. Friend had an AWD Denali and got the same mileage. Both walked my blue truck (they let me tune them) before the blower. Neither would hold OD as well, but stock for stock hands down the 6.0 is a vastly superior engine than the 5.7. Once tuned, the 5.7 downshifts less than even a tuned 6.0 which downshifts less than stock but the 6.0 completely assrapes the 5.7 in a drag race.
