Actually, the C2500 is also listed with a 305!

BTW what that's a 305? LOL I've seen only one 2500 truck with 5.0 listed.

My brother and were talking and we were saying you hardly see any trucks with that engine. I told him almost all 305s have been remelted into LS engines, LOL.

Gross. **** a 305.

Are you saying that the semi-float/6 lug 2500s only had a GVW of 4,600lbs?
I would imagine that an empty truck would weigh that much.
Maybe I'm wrong on this, but weren't the 6 lug semis on 1500s, while the 8 lug semis were for 2500 "light duty", and the full-floaters were for the 8,600 GVW trucks.
its the Gross Axle Weight Rating, so divide the weight of the truck between the front and rear axles and it gives you more room to play with. figure in the tongue weight of the trailer plus the 1000lbs loaded in the bed and should give you the gross tow weight. From what I'm seeing the 2500 longbed with 350 and 3.73 gears has a max gross trailer rating of 8500lbs tongue of 1000lbs and Max payload of 3172lbs. I attached the info I found

ideas from the group.
Truck= 1991 C2500 Silverado. Trailer package, 5.7 350 tbi with tbi riser plate and 4l80e trans.
120 Ltr tank.
Pulling 5200lbs travel trailer and about 1000# in the box of gear.
I only pull in drive, I dont tow in od.
Engine is strong, transmission has cooler and shift kit and is prestine when serviced by transmission shop.

My problem is this, decent gas millage when not pulling, about 6-700km highway.
But pulling at a steady 100-105km/h my gas millage is worse than bad.
I can get about 180-200km on the top 1/4 of my tank from full to 3/4 mark when not pulling.
But I used 3/4 of my tank when pulling 176km to our campsite. Ouch!!!!
Now my other issue is my trany isn't slipping but its boiling trany fluid out the breather, everything I tow. Advise my trany guy said to try a bigger cooler for the first attempt to address the fluid spew.
I just put a tack on to make absolute sure my trany isn't slipping.

What are you thoughts from the group?

that’s really bad. Your cooler may be clogged up. You’re gonna burn up the transmission. You need a bigger trans cooler at the minimum. Or at least have your cooler checked or flushed. Do you have the auxiliary cooler or only the in radiator cooler. You may want to look into a fluid service and filter change. If you’re overheating like that the trans will soon die.
There is no way your trucks transmission should be overheating with that weight if you have the fluid at the right level and the Trans is being cooled.. You don’t need some powerhouse 454/8.1 liter to tow 5000 pounds.

8.1 was the highest hp and torque gas for a GMT400 and made a fair bit more torque than even the 454.

when did the GMT400 platform get the 8.1 liter? Unless you’re talking a swap.

Don't need those cubes to pull 5,00 but they make enough torque to pull that weight almost effortlessly.

The 8.1 went into 01 and 02 GMT400 chassis. My Tahoe is 8.1 swapped with a combination of factory van and GMT400 8.1 parts.

This is not enough information to actually tell what mileage you are getting. Have you calculated your fuel mileage? We don't know if there is a problem if we don't know your actual fuel mileage. Going by the gauge is not accurate at all. Unloaded I average between 15L/100km and 18L/100km. Towing a 7000 trailer to Banff from Calgary I use 30L/100km. Towing a 3500 pound trailer to Banff from Calgary I use 22-24L/100km. Calculate your mileage when you fill up, liters used over km driven X100.

must be a chassi cab because I’ve never seen one from the factory in the typical 1500/3500 chassis. And in 2001 we swapped our fleet from Dodge to Chevy service trucks. It must of been a rare option

All info that I've read says that the first year of the 8.1 was 2001.
The 454s ended in 1999, and for 2000 the only engine for trucks and Subs was the 6.0.
Although, the 5.7s continued for a couple more years in certain vans.

8.1 only came in the 3500HD (GVWR = 15,000 GVWR.) for '01-'02 I believe.

Technically a GMT 400, but not in the 1500/2500/3500s.

No, their were lots of 2500 Subs and trucks with the 8.1 in '01/'02, I've looked at several.
The Subs used a 4L85E trans, and the engine was de-rated in HP, it had software in the computer to manage the torque, so you didn't blow the trans.
The trucks had a little more HP than the Subs, they also used the same Allison as the diesel rigs.

Sure, but those are GMT 800s.
