That's what it's all about...lessons learned. Although every vehicle platform has its own issues, it seems like our obs Chevys and their gremlins leave no stone unturned. Sheesh!

If the engine ran with the tbi setup with the timing set looking at a erroneous mark way off. Why then when would it not fire with the first distributor assuming it was good?
At some point when it was running right, I'm guessing the harmonic balancer shifted, then someone changed, or reset, the distributor based on the timing marks, which were now off, and got it out of time.

When it wouldn't fire with the new carb setup he thought it was the old Distributor a guy at work gave him so he scrapped that and bought a new unit.
Maybe when he installed the old distributor the guy at work gave him? When troubleshooting, you have to ask yourself "what changed" when it went bad?

Anyway, a fairly expensive lesson but at least he got it running.:waytogo:
