There was just a recent thread on this. Seems they were just a way to mark frames for particular builds.

Mine was pink and had HM on it. My first thougt was transmission. Hydromatic, but frame makes more sense. Two letter code reminds me of the broadcast sheets on older cars you would find under the rear seat.

Sorry for the hijack but is the tag the size of a saltine c r a c k e r or smaller. Just wondering for reference when I have my truck on the lift to go looking for it.

Edit: really “ c r a c k e r “ is banned?

Mine is 3 letters and is probably slightly longer than a saltine, but quite a bit shorter.....a rectangle, not a square.

LOL, I've never heard anyone use a saltine for scale, but it's the perfect univeral object in this situation!

They are used to denote what parts, that a specific frame is to get if I remember correctly. I can ask tomorrow while I am working, off the top of my head I can't remember.
From the other thread, They are the broadcast code for the truck's frame. The line gets a sheet list of parts for that specific frame, and they all have a 2-4 digit code.
