so you say after zero lash to wait couple of minutes before final tightening?
No.

Determine how much preload you want--let's say 1/2 turn from zero-lash.

Tighten 1/12 turn, (30 degrees) give the lifter twenty seconds to bleed-down. Tighten 1/12 turn, wait another 20 seconds. Continue tightening like that until you've got your 1/2 (6/12, 180 degrees) turn. WATCH the valve/rocker tip, if it's showing no sign of depressing the valve, you can speed-up a little. If the valve tip is getting pushed down, slow down.
