I'm rebuilding an L31. The engine I'm rebuilding was a running engine that I bought to replace a failed 305. The engines are rated 255hp/330 tq.
I'd like to make a bit more power and torque and I kinda like the 14097395 Chev cam from the RamJet 350
-It is otherwise stock. 2 bolt main, and I think I'll be using HD 906 heads (w/ separate exhaust seats)
-14097395 cam. I'd like to get a tune on a 411 pcm, thinking from PCM for less or blackbear
-already have the updated spider injectors
-I've thought about going to 1.6 full roller rockers, but see the ramjet 350 uses 1.5 rockers now, so I question the need for it. I'd also need to replace the press in studs.
-I also wonder how much power loss really occurs at lower RPM's with stock rockers

Basically I'm looking for you thoughts on this. I'd like to keep a decent idle and decent mileage, while picking up some power, which is why I like the 14097395 cam. It would be used as a farm truck and to tow with, so the torque is mostly what I'm after.

I think the Ramjet makes its power from the long runners of the intake. the cam specs where similar to a stock 350. If ur gonna tune it, look into a more aggressive cam. within reason of course lol

I got my 395 cam for like $120 on eBay. It is a drop in and go cam. I did that and full 1.6 roller rockers and the 2 of them made a decent improvement in torque from an idle to redline. There may be meatier cams out there that can do more, but this was a guarantee for me.

If your just looking for torque, you might have your 305 heads checked out. They flow good too and give a compression raise unless you already have some 906 heads.

They also have smaller valves and chambers which hurts flow.
The 059 305 Vortec heads I pulled off an older stock engine flowed better than the Hecho en Mexico 062s.

The 58cc chambers will boost the compression up to around 10.2:1.

More power everywhere. Like putting early 4.8/5.3 heads on a LQ4.

Why screw-in studs?

GM swapped to 1.5 rockers because they quit making or supplying the 1.6s. HP and TQ both dropped about 5 on the power rating.

Where did you see a 305 head outflow a 350 head?

The two I had flowed. The 059 305 head flowed 224cfm @ .500. The Hecho en Mexico 062 350 head flowed 218 @ .450 and dropped to 208 at .500. You could practically lay the exhaust flow over each other, identical within 1-2 cfm up to .600". The Hecho en Mexico engine was a DOG compared to the stock engine with canadian 906s. The canadian 906s hit 242 cfm @ .450 and 246 @ .500.

Stan Weiss has an 059 casting documeted. Hot Rod magazine also flowed an hecho en mexico 062 used on their budget 350 build and found they flowed like crap too.
