We had some locking toolboxes on the side of an old f250; being able to pull the key out and leave the engine running while you grabbed what you needed was really handy in winter.

And the truck didn't honk at you when you did it.

Many of the trucks will have the key get stuck when the ignition is worn a bit. Will need to replace the ignition switch. I had this happen with my 93 Silverado and it stuck in the On position. I had to remove the steering wheel and replace the switch.

Same column design, had to replace the ignition tumbler in my '88 T/A for this reason. I've replaced a few others in GMT400 trucks for customers in the past when they wouldn't move to the ACC position. Tumblers get worn. Easy to replace.. though you gotta pull the wheel, which of course requires a steering wheel puller set, and lock ring depressor set, which can be borrowed from the auto parts store.

When I was in college I had a Mazda 626 that the keys would fall out when I took a left hand turn. My friend would then grab the keys out of the center console and dangle them out the window, threatening to drop them.

IIRC in the early 60s that was common in some GMs, maybe others. I think it changed in 1966. I was young then but remember it pretty well.
My cousin's '65 Chevy ll Nova was like that. He was always starting it, then taking the keys out and putting them back in his pocket....

Just reach down under the column, and see if the "push rod" popped out of its place in the ignition switch.. maybe even try to move it a bit see what happens. Ive seen (Square Body) the push rod cause damage to the ignition switch, round off the corner and slide under, not doing anything
