I am not aware of JD9 brakes. I've heard of JF9, on the C3500. (Chassis/Cab?)
My '97 service manual describes the JF9 brakes as using Bendix "sliding" calipers instead of Delco "floating" calipers (Like the crappy old Ford calipers, held in place with a leaf-spring, an aluminum keyway, and an Allen-socket bolt) along with disc brakes in the rear.
My '88 manual shows a series of "JN" brakes, 1 through 8 with some missing numbers.
