I wanna say yes. Almost every other message is about getting a 4l80.. and if you mention 4l60 starts a trans war lol. If you do you there's a lot that goes into the swap

Yes, very possible. Here's my thread on that exact swap in my '97 C1500. Basically the same truck as yours so most of the information will apply directly.

EDIT - And the fact that your truck is a '96+ will make the swap much easier in regard to the PCM tuning necessary.

There's some cross member modification to be done, wiring re-pinning, driveshaft modification, ECU re-tuning and possibly torque converter swap.

There's a thread on the towing sub-forum and they had issues with a rebuilt 4L60e going out. I recommended giving up the 1500 for a 2500/3500. I think just on the transmission alone it makes sense to upgrade to a 3/4 ton +...

I suppose if you are set on a 1500, then do the swap, as in a "performance upgrade," i.e., doing burnouts, etc. instead of towing/hauling.
