Top off tank, get on the highway and use GPS to figure exact distance to a gas station a good ways away. Drive there, top it off again to figure exact fuel consumption. You know have accurate distance and the amount of fuel used to get there.

On a related topic, I'm torn between 4.56 and 4.88 for the Burban. 4th in my 80e isn't as tall as it is in a 60e. 4.88 would put me around 2650 rpm at 80 mph which is generally my cruising speed on the highway, if not higher.

That's a lot of work just to figure mpg though a much easier solution is to download an app that tracks miles traveled that way you don't have to make a special trip

After running mine a while, My 4.10s are plenty deep for me with new 35x12.50x17 federal couragia mt's. That being said, I have a manual. I wouldn want the gears any higher, because i tow a fair bit (big ski boat). It maintains 5th gear on the highway over the steep hills around here. If it was an auto, I would probably run 4.56's. My speedo is off alot. 4.56s should put your speedo/odo close.
