I am having some issues with my 1998 suburban power steering. Replaced the pump a couple years ago and ever since it feels very light at highway speed but very stiff when moving slower around town. The pump also whines pretty bad at higher rpm’s. I now have the engine out for a rebuild and want to get the steering figured out. It has just over 300k miles on it so I was thinking about putting a new gearbox on along with another new pump. Is it possible to install pre EVO parts on this to avoid future headaches? Thanks

Sounds like a defective pump.

Does this vehicle have Hydroboost brake assist?

Don't let your original steering box go back as a "core" until you're satisfied with the "new" steering box.

Sure.
