Finally got this done today, and I'm happy to report that the truck drives great!
I can't tell any difference vs the original '97 pump with the EVO delete, so the flow control valve in the '96 pumps must be sized appropriately. Also my return line with the cooler was in great shape so there was no issue re-using that.
As an added bonus I had my A/C worked on while it was in the shop, and that turned out to be a small leak from one of the service ports. Easy fix!
