The table that @xXxPARAGONxXx posted with 650 is idle in closed loop, in park/neutral, accessories off. The other one is in gear.
Yeah that’s what we thought, so if that’s true, then my 650 rpm’s are high and should be 550 rpm’s.
I’ll look for that PID, but I doubt I have it. I wish that everyone in this thread with a 5.7 Vortec would disclose what they were getting.

Maybe see if you have a PID for IAC valve counts - desired and actual. That is the computer tracking and adjusting the valve’s position.

@east302 do you see where it shows the IAC Relearn?

I have the Service Manual for the 96, but it seems like it’s an off brand version and trying to navigate through it makes my eyes boil. TIA

You should really do a TPS relearn while you're at it since you monkeyed with the screw.

Yeah I can try. But turning that screw and then returning it to the EXACT location has had zero effect on anything. All idles, in park or in gear are exactly where it was.

I hear ya, but you could still be off a percent or 2 without realizing it which can affect things. I'm not sure how to do it without a tuner, but it should be pretty simple.

We’ll get there and thanks. You know, it’s still possible it’s always has been and is right where it’s supposed to be. Although the service manual postings do indicate a 650 rpm in Park at temp.
Through all of this, I’m still at about 675 temp/park.

With the black box mine would idle 1000+ when it got cold out, like teens or colder. It doesn't do that with the 411. I never bothered trying to figure it out. It also pulled timing due to a phantom knock, another thing the 411 fixed. Truck had a lot more top end after that.

My black box had the high idle in cold weather too but my observation on knock retard was the opposite. I think my 2nd 4L60E was already hurt though as the only time it had knock retard was in 2nd gear and it would vanish shifting into 3rd gear. It would max the knock retard out at -8* at WOT but only in 2nd gear.

I thought that was the throttle stop he moved?
It was. But it’s exactly back where it was and since have done multiple driving cycles with zero effect on idle. It really isn’t even worth mentioning anymore. @Supercharged111 do you know the procedure for TPS relearn? I did some of the YouTube procedures and after reading up on it some, it seems that after just driving it in varied situations it relearns itself. Also, just removing throttle body and cleaning, it seems, it is also doing a relearn for the new clean TB. I still am not hearing from others what their idle’s are. It’s probably normal what I’ve got.
