Talking with guys who have newer trucks at work, they miss the days when all you had to worry about is the 4l60... Its a known weak link but everything else is solid and reliable.

New trucks with turbo 4-cylinders and 8-speed autos have all sorts of unknown problems that are just waiting to pop up and cost thousands to fix because the average owner wont be able to diagnose and fix them. One co-worker has a Brand new Ford Ranger that has been in the shop for over a month (luckily the warrantee is covering it 100%) and he cant tow his boat or go camping until he gets it back.

COPY+PASTE in the "What do you like most about your gm400" thread, perfect explanation.

On the note of brand new Ford's being down for months, we have a 20 escape in for Injector issues, its been 10ft in the air for about 4-5 months now waiting for a backorder. The other day the new guy backed into it (no longer works for us LOL.)

I think Ford is now buying it back lol.

Ok guys, yall can let me have it for not doing the 4L80 swap. I blew up the trans again. Broke the out put shaft, trans case, lol just blew up the thing. I brought it back to the trans shop last Monday a week ago, on Memorial day. It happened the Thursday before but they couldnt get to it before that.
. I got it back at 5:30 yesterday. I think they just has thw pressures turned up to much, and with the shift kit, it was just to much. I blew shifting out of 1st into 2ed when the shift kit hit. The trans did BOOM again. So I told them to leave out the shift kit, and turn down the pressure. They had to replace the case and internals. Cost me nothing. Just had to spend a week without my truck again. Boss let me use the shop truck again. Im glad to have mine back though.

OUCH! Atleast it sounds like the shop is standing behind their work rather then telling you to get bent.

Coulda shoulda 4L80E swapped but that is not even a 100% fix. Buddy grenaded the converter in his 4L80E in his NA 6.0L swapped 97 a few months back. Then a short time later grenaded the 80E in his 454 4x4 Dually. Built the dually trans and it lost clutches again from a bad MAF.

Wow Kenny that's crazy about your trans. Gotta love those 4l60:) hopefully it holds up after the rebuild. Glad the shop taking care of it. I've been down that road. After so many times at the shop I just gave up and ordered one from gm. But I'm worried whenever its paired against my 383:(
