I've got a whining noise coming from the engine when at idle. The whining stops when I rev the engine, then returns when the engine returns to idle. The whining occurs both in gear and neutral.
I removed the serpentine belt - and the whining noise is still there. I believe that rules out the alternator, a/c compressor, water pump, power steering pump, and tensioner pulley.
I bought a mechanics stethoscope, but still can't identify where it's coming from. I believe it is internal in the engine. All fluids are good.
Any ideas what's causing it... and how to diagnose it? Thank You!
