Toolbox/bumper paint?

I'm going to be painting my toolbox and bumpers a flat black. Just curious on what steps to take for prep, best paint choices, and how do I tell if I just have an aluminum box not chrome? Also all of this is getting powder coated hopefully in about a year 2 at the absolute longest so doesn't have to super durable.

easiest way is see if a magnet sticks to the toolbox.
