Took a ride yesterday and then just holding this tight to upper inlet I got 185° . Again, this thread was just to get a consensus on inaccuracy of dash gauge.

So dumb question which guage would you say is more accurate for a 195t stat?I have three 98s that all read a little more than halfway between 100 and 210. The temperature gauge’s scale isn’t even linear, so I wouldn’t read too much into it much less try to determine the temperature that each tick mark corresponds to.
As mentioned above, a scanner can be used to read the ECT sensor output which is installed next to the thermostat. That’s the value that the computer uses and should be around the thermostat setpoint.

So the one that's higher would be closer to mine running 195stat?The one that reads low coincides with my trucks that run 180.

Thanks. Just wanted to double check. . Guess I'll keep playing with it before I install my original temp guageYup.
I think out guages are less accurate compared to my orginal cluster guage lol. Playing around trying to do simple math I came up with this readout. May be totally wrong but it lines up with the higher guage.Lol, opposite for me. This one (and your scanner ECT sensor reading) are what I see on mine with that thermostat.
I wouldn’t put too much stock into that gauge unless it’s rising and pegs out.
