After weeks of searching threads I couldn't find a solid answer.

Will a 2wd steering box fit onto a 4x4?

Here is my background, my truck is a 4x4 k3500 with hydroboost brakes powered by the power steering pump.

I would like to go to the junkyard and find a low mile steering box from a 2wd to replace my box.

From what I can tell, the ratios are the same but the part numbers are different.

I was at the yard today, pulled parts off a 2wd. Box looked exactly the same as the one on my 4x4

They are the same and bolt right in,however, some 2wds came with a quicker ratio. Not ideal for 4x4s, but some people on here have run them. The only way to easily tell is to look in the glove box for the RPO code, ZQ8 out of the donor truck. All SS454s and I believe all Sport Trucks came with it along with a few others. As long as you don't see that code, its identical.
