A properly built 4L60E can hold quite a bit of power. I like the ratios of the 4L60 more so too, longer overdrive and shorter 1st. They are lighter and rob less power too.

I stand by my original statement.....

Would dropping in the 4l80 make my mileage go to crap?? I don't care much but I'd like to show this thing off as much as possible without getting absolutely railed at the pump haha

That OptiShift controller looks bada$$. Can it do all the tow/haul modes, paddle shift, and all that other stuff?

don't think it would bother the mpgs, it would just help insure you for reliability when towing, or when just messing around

4L60-E...3.06...1.62...1.00...0.70Light duty
4L80-E...2.48...1.48...1.00...0.75 Heavy duty

As you can see, the 80 is geared a little lower than the 60.

4l60e grew out of the 700r4. IOW, it's a car transmission.

4l80e grew out of the th400. IOW, it's a trick transmission.

80 is rated for ~110 lbft more torque.

80 is heavier and bigger than a 60.

Easy swap on a 2wd, bit more invoved on a 4wd.

Might cost you 1-2 mpg tops but it will outlast the truck.

My 80 has survived three 6.5 turbo diesels and has towed all it's life.

Sitting at 430,000 without a hint of failure or weakness.

You have to go up to the Allison's to find a stronger gm automatic....
